OMARI INTERIORS

"Omari"...a word taken from the Swahili language, meaning "to flourish"....

 

I could go on and on about being inspired by my travels to exotic destinations, about wanting my spaces to be a reflection of my soul or my love for all things odd. But while all this is true, Omari Interiors was actually born out of the need to create a silk purse from a sow's ear. On a budget, to a tight timeframe and in a male-dominated construction industry that often drowns out the voice of the one person for whom the house will need to work the hardest.

After running my soft furnishing business, Hazl Designs, for 8 years and overseeing the transformation of a 1930's wreck into our dream family home, I have come to see how design and layout often overlook the female perspective. This is particularly true when it comes to areas such as storage, kitchen layout, utility functionality, day-to-day traffic flow throughout the house and entrance hall solutions. During the process of our family home renovation, I learnt a huge amount. But I also realised that many of the decisions, both technical and aesthetic, came very naturally to me, and I learnt to trust my gut on both small and large decisions.

Our build project took 8 months from breaking ground to moving in, a timeframe which seemed impossible at the time, but was achieved with a great builder, good planning and my decisive presence on site almost every day. I got the opportunity to create a space that works both hard and beautifully for my family, and I truly hope I can do the same for you...
